Kickstarter: Nexra NM1 makes the Comandante C40 an electric grinder
A crowdfunding campaign to motorize the legendary Comandante C40. Pledges start at HK$1,085 (about US$139) against a US$199 retail price, with delivery estimated for December 2026.

Hong Kong startup Nexra launched the Nexra NM1 on Kickstarter on October 14: a battery-powered motor module that sits on top of a Comandante C40 hand grinder and makes it electric. As of October 18, 2026 it had raised HK$159,654 of its HK$10,000 goal from 118 backers, with the campaign running until November 12.
What the Comandante C40 electric module does
-
Fits without tools. An adapter coupler slides onto the C40’s axle and locks with a twist. Nexra says nothing on the grinder is modified, and the coupler can stay on.

-
Load beans from the top. A magnetic cap lets you add beans without lifting the module off.

-
Hand-grinding pace. The geared motor runs at about 60 RPM, close to cranking by hand, and the speed isn’t adjustable. Nexra says it stops by itself when the beans are done and reverses to clear a jam. Its recommended range is 10 to 40 clicks, which it says covers espresso.
-
Optional stand. The Nexra Stand Set (US$65 add-on) holds the C40 upright on the counter over a magnetic stainless steel catch cup.

About the creator
This is Nexra’s first campaign. The team says it comes from motor manufacturing for power tools and cars, and has worked on the NM1 since early 2024. Nexra isn’t affiliated with Comandante.
Our take
There’s perhaps better ways to get a electric heptagonal conical burr profile these days, but this can make sense for existing Comandante owners. For C40 owners who like the grinder’s flavor profile but not the cranking, this costs less than adding an electric grinder and keeps the burrs and click settings they already know.
As always, crowdfunding campaigns aren’t a store. Backers pledge to support a project, and delivery dates often slip. Back only what you can afford to wait for, or lose.
