Laybird, the maker of the MagAttach coffee scale, is crowdfunding the Nexus 64X, a 64mm flat burr grinder whose grind setting is moved by a motor instead of a hand-turned dial. The campaign launched September 24 and had raised US$280,696 of its US$8,000 goal from 528 backers as of October 18, 2026. It ends October 24, so there are less than six days left to back it.
What the Nexus 64X does
-
A motor sets the grind. A stepper motor moves the front burr in 320 steps of 2.5 µm each (that’s pretty fine!), so a setting is a number you can save and return to exactly. Up to 50 positions can be stored.
-
Starting points by brew method. Pick a brew method and roast level and the grinder suggests a grind range and speed, which you then fine-tune. Laybird says the suggestions are calibrated only for its stock burrs.
-
64mm burrs and variable speed. The flat burrs were co-developed with Lebrew in a “Sweet Profile” geometry meant for both espresso and filter. A 500 W brushless motor runs from 600 to 1,500 RPM.

-
A touchscreen you can take off. The 2.8-inch round screen works on the grinder or in your hand over Bluetooth, which helps since it sits low on this horizontal design.

-
Static control built in. A lid mists the beans before grinding (the “MistLid”), and a plasma static neutralizer (part of what Laybird calls “CleanShot”) targets static and retained grounds.
-
Tool-free cleaning. With the screen off, the front burr module releases by hand for cleaning or a future burr swap.

Laybird estimates delivery in December 2026 and ships worldwide, with shipping charged after the campaign. Voltage is picked in the backer survey, and Laybird covers VAT for EU backers.
About the creator
This is Laybird’s second Kickstarter. MagAttach, a magnetic coffee scale system, raised US$88,617 from 1,059 backers in May 2025, and Laybird’s updates report it shipping in batches from August 2025. Kickstarter lists the company in Dover, Delaware.
As always, crowdfunding campaigns aren’t a store. Backers pledge to support a project, and delivery dates often slip. Back only what you can afford to wait for, or lose.
