Weber Workshops announced the biggest redesign of its EG-1 grinder since the original launch in 2015. In true Apple product design fashion, they’re dropping version numbers, so rather than the v4, it’s “simply the EG-1.”

What’s new

  • Integrated Bean Feeder (optional). An optional extra, magnetically attached. Controls feed rate of beans into the burrs.
  • Built-in ion generator. The internal chamber has been updated with an ionizer to reduce static.
  • Self-aligning burrs (“Intrinsic Alignment”). Weber claims the grinder’s construction keeps the burrs parallel and centered, so there’s no realigning after cleaning or a burr swap.
  • Vibe Tone purge. After grinding and detecting no further load, the motor oscillates to shake loose coffee caught between the burr teeth.
  • Stronger motor. Weber says it has at least 22% more torque and adds auto-stop, in the same size.

Smaller changes:

  • One-piece burr chamber cover Truly toolless design for quick access to the burrs.
  • Rotating power inlet Allows for enhanced cable management on bar and hiding away the plug.
  • USB-C port For firmware updates and settings. Weber mentions an EG-1 browser interface for adjusting vibration tone and the status light brightness.

What hasn’t changed

It’s still an 80mm flat-burr grinder built around single dosing, with variable RPM, low retention and grind adjustment from espresso to filter.

Price and availability

The EG-1 is $4,450 USD in Silver or Onyx, with either burr set. It’s on sale now, and Weber says shipping starts in 2–3 weeks. US orders ship from Colorado, EU orders from Germany, and the rest of the world from Taipei. The Bean Feeder is $60 off when bought with the grinder, and a second burr set is also discounted.
