Nucleus Coffee Tools announces Silk at SCAJ 2026, a milk jug designed for taste
While milk jugs may sound like a dime a dozen, Nucleus co-developed the Silk with RMIT University to improve milk texture and foam stability. Due in December 2026, price TBD.

Nucleus Coffee Tools has announced the Silk, a milk jug it developed with researchers at RMIT University in Melbourne. The Nucleus Silk milk jug is due in December 2026. Nucleus calls it “the world’s first milk jug engineered for taste.”
What Nucleus says the Silk jug does
Most milk jugs are designed around the spout, latte art and looks. Nucleus says it designed the Silk around what happens to the milk while it’s steamed instead:
- Steadier milk movement. According to Nucleus, an ordinary jug only holds the milk, and that can leave air mixed in unevenly. The Silk’s shape is meant to control how the milk accelerates and circulates during steaming.
- Finer, longer-lasting foam. The goal is smoother texture with fewer large bubbles. It should also keep its structure longer in the cup, instead of turning dry or bubbly soon after pouring.
- Better mouthfeel and taste. Nucleus says the research looked at fluid dynamics, bubble formation and foam stability, and how each affects how a milk drink tastes.
The detail photos show a black body and handle with “SILK” printed on it, a sharp spout, and volume marks inside from 8 oz (236 ml) to 14 oz (415 ml).

Price and availability
Nucleus says the Silk arrives in December 2026 and hasn’t announced a price. It’s showing the jug early at the SCAJ conference in Tokyo, with its Japanese partner FBC International, and at World of Coffee Panama, alongside Sanremo.
Our take
Milk jugs rarely change beyond the spout, so a jug designed around foam behavior is unusual. Nucleus hasn’t published the RMIT findings, the jug’s total capacity or its materials yet. Those, plus the price, will show whether the Silk is a real step forward or mostly a premium jug. Nucleus is inviting people to its newsletter for the research.
